What is Move for Mental Health?

Move for Mental Health is a virtual fitness and fundraising challenge for all abilities.

Proceeds raised from the challenge this year will enable mental health patients throughout the region to access specialised exercise programs.

Participants can choose to walk, run, wheel, cycle or even CrossFit their way through the month of October, as they share their progress online to encourage donations from their social network.

Who can participate?

Move for Mental Health is suitable for all abilities and fitness levels so everyone can feel empowered to achieve their personal fitness and fundraising goals.

Participants under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian read and accept the 2023 Move for Mental Health terms and conditions on their behalf.

You should seek medical advice and a clearance from your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.

As part of the terms and conditions, entrants agree that they participate in the 2023 Move for Mental Health challenge entirely at their own risk.

How much does it cost to register?

$25 per person for individuals and $50 for families.

How do I participate?

Complete your registration by clicking here.

You will receive an email with a link to access and personalise your Move for Mental Health page.

You can keep a record of your exercise activity by clicking on your image in the top right corner of your page, selecting ‘my fitness activity’ and following the prompts. You can also log your exercise activity manually this way.

Share your progress with your social network to encourage donations. You will receive regular updates from the Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation team throughout the Move for Mental Health challenge so make sure you check your inbox and junk inbox regularly.

The challenge finishes on October 31 and you will receive a virtual medal and a certificate of recognition to thank you for your support at the start of November. We also have a number of prizes to giveaway and award those who raise the most funds or log the most exercise.

How do I connect my fundraising page to a fitness app?

By completing this step, you enable Move for Mental Health to include a total of your exercise activity on your fundraising page. This makes it easier to share both your fitness and fundraising efforts on social media to encourage donations. Simply:

  1. Log onto your Move for Mental Health page.
  2. Click on your image in the top right corner of the page and select ‘my fitness activity’ and follow the prompts.

How do I create a team?

  1. Log onto your Move for Mental Health page.
  2. Select ‘dashboard’ and scroll down the page to select ‘create a team’ and follow the prompts.

Please note: you do not have to create a team to participate, this is simply an option for those who wish to do so.

How do I record my exercise on Strava?

1. Log into the Strava app on your mobile device.
2. Select the circle ‘record’ button in the middle of the footer.
3. Select ‘start’ and the access you wish to grant the Strava app.
4. Click on the sneakers icon on the footer of the page and select the type of exercise you will be doing and select ‘start’.
5. You will need to select ‘accept’ to agree with Strava terms and conditions in order to track your exercise.
6. After you’ve finished exercising, you will need to click on the orange circle. This will give you a summary of the exercise you just completed.
7. Select ‘finish’, this will take you to the next page where you can add content and photos from your exercise session if you wish.
8. Select ‘save activity’ and this will post your exercise on the Strava feed where other fitness app users can see your progress. This is step will also add the exercise you just completed to your overall tally.

If you wish to delete your activity simply scroll down the bottom of this page and select ‘discard activity’.

Please note: If you have chosen to walk the challenge and wish to keep a tally of your kilometres, you will need to log your exercise as a ‘run’ on Strava. At this point in time Strava will only record a walk as a post on your account and not add it to your overall kilometres tally. 

Can I connect my Apple Watch activity?

You can connect your Apple watch activity by setting up Strava on your Apple Watch:

  • Download the Strava app on your iPhone if you haven't already.
  • Open the "My Watch” section of the Apple Watch app on your phone.
  • Find the Strava app to install on your watch. If it's already installed on your Watch, then open the app on your Watch. If it's not installed, tap on Install next to Strava in the Watch App.
  • Open the Strava app on your Watch. You will be prompted (on your phone) to authorize Strava for Apple Watch.
  • The Strava Apple Watch app supports watchOS 6.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later.

How do I record my exercise on Map My Run?

1. Log into the Map My Run app on your mobile device.
2. Select the type of exercise you will be completing by clicking on the arrow beside the cog wheel at the top of the page. This will give you a list of all the exercise you can record on the app.
3. Select ‘start workout’.
4. Once you’ve finished exercising select ‘pause’ and then ‘hold to finish’. This will give you a summary of your exercise. You can also upload a photo if you like by selecting the camera button.
5. Select ‘save’ on the top right corner and then ‘share’ which will allow you to upload your exercise direct on a few platforms such as Instagram, Facebook or the Map My Run newsfeed.
If you wish to delete your activity select the three dots (…) at the top right corner of the page and select ‘delete’.

How do I change from miles to kilometres on Strava?

1. Log into the app on your mobile device.
2. Select ‘profile’ at the bottom of the screen.
3. Select ‘settings’ which is represented by the cog wheel at the top right of the screen.
4. Click ‘units of measurement’ and this will automatically change the selection from miles to kilometres and vice versa. 

How do I change from miles to kilometres on Map My Run?

1. Log into the app on your mobile device.
2. Click on the three dots (…) in the bottom right corner of the screen.
3. Select ‘settings’, then select ‘unit’ and ‘metric (kilometres)’.

Can I start the challenge before October?

Absolutely! If you’re motivated and wish to start working towards your fitness and fundraising goals then go for it.

Where and when should I exercise?

Wherever you are and whenever you like. You get to choose.

Is there a minimum I need to exercise and fundraise?

No, when you register you get to select your fitness and fundraising goals and these are yours to work towards.

Can I collect physical donations?

We require all donations to be processed online through your Move for Mental Health page. If you are presented with physical cash from someone who would like to make a donation, please ask them to transfer the funds online and send them the link to your page.

Can I provide a tax-deductible receipt for donations I receive?

Yes, an automatic receipt is sent to the email address of the donor once the online transaction has taken place.

What happens with the funds that are raised?

Proceeds raised from the 2023 Move for Mental Health challenge will go to specialised exercise programs to improve patients wellbeing and recovery outcomes.

Terms and Conditions

By registering to participate in the 2023 Move for Mental Health challenge you agree to abide and be bound by the following terms and conditions

The 2023 Move for Mental Health is a virtual fitness and fundraising challenge designed for all abilities. All proceeds raised will enable mental health patients throughout the region to access specialised exercise programs.

Participants can choose to walk, run, wheel, cycle or even CrossFit their way through the month of October, as they share their progress online to encourage donations from their social network.

This challenge has been created to take place throughout October to coincide with Mental Health Awareness month and World Mental Health Day (October 10). Participants are welcome to start prior to this date and can choose to end their participation at any time. Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation reserves the right to cancel any individuals participation if they do not comply with the terms and conditions outlined.

Participant eligibility

We recommend you seek medical advice and a clearance from your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions.

Participants under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or guardian read and accept these terms and conditions on their behalf.

COVID-19 Regulations

We want every participant to have a safe and enjoyable experience. Please ensure you adhere to the regulations and any current COVID-19 restrictions in your state or territory of residence.

Donations and fundraising

Each participant has the authority to fundraise for Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation once they have completed the 2023 Move for Mental Health registration form. All donations must be processed online through the participant’s Move for Mental Health page. If you are presented with physical cash from someone who would like to make a donation, please ask them to transfer the funds online and send them the link to your fundraising page.

There are no minimum fundraising targets. Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation will be the sole beneficiary of funds raised from the 2022 Move for Mental Health challenge. All proceeds have been dedicated to improving mental health services and providing specialised exercise programs for mental health patients throughout the Loddon Mallee region.

Participants must adhere to the terms and conditions of Move for Mental Health and their selected fitness app whilst participating.

Social media

Each participant is responsible for the images and content they choose to publish online. Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation will not be held liable for any damages which may occur.

Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation has the right to republish content that has been uploaded by participants that refers to Move for Mental Health.

Marketing

Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation owns all logos, marketing materials and content that has been created for Move for Mental Health. These materials must not be copied or replicated unless you have specific permission to do so.

Contact

You will receive regular emails and updates from Bendigo Health Fundraising & Foundation throughout the duration of the Move for Mental Health challenge.

Non- compliance

If you do not comply with these terms and conditions your participation may be cancelled.

Liability

Entrants agree that they participate in the 2023 Move for Mental Health challenge entirely at their own risk.
